What is the wbr element in HTML?

Overview

The wbr element in HTML is used to indicate a word break opportunity. This means that if the browser needs to break a word in half while displaying it on the screen, we can indicate the right places to break the word with a wbr tag.

Example

The following example will help you understand the wbr element. As you can see, without the wbr element, the browser breaks the word where it wishes to (in this case, right at the start of the word). However, when we use wbr, the word breaks at the point specified by the programmer.

Attributes

wbr only includes global attributes. You can find more information about them in the documentation.

A hyphen is not directly included by including the <wbr> element at the line’s breakpoint. Instead, you should use the soft hyphen character to have a hyphen show only at the end of a line (&shy;).
