Gmail’s POP3 forwarding is a popular feature used to add messages in a user’s inbox to another email’s inbox. However, users often come across the Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password error when trying to add another Gmail account. In this shot, we will discuss ways to help overcome this error.

Enabling POP forwarding

For POP forwarding to work, the feature needs to be enabled on both involved accounts. Here’s how it can be enabled:

  1. Open a Gmail tab on your browser and sign in to your account.
  2. Select the settings icon on the top right.

  1. Click on the “See all setting” button in the drop-down.

  1. Select the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” option on the top bar.

  1. Select either the “Enable POP for all mail” or “Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on” based on your requirements.

  1. Make sure to follow the steps above for both accounts.

Lowering source account security

Another reason why the error might show up is that the source account might not trust the other account enough to forward mails to it. Lowering the security of the source account may fix this issue. You can do so by:

  1. Opening a Gmail tab on your browser and signing in to your source account.
  2. Following this link and clicking the “Continue” button to allow access.
