How to request funds from a testnet faucet

Introduction

A testnet is an essential tool for cryptocurrency improvement. Through this kind of network, engineers can complete tests without compromising the leading network’s proper working.

A faucet is a web-based service that gives free tokens to clients of the testnet who run a stake pool or other hub.

Requesting funds from a testnet faucet

We will use the MetaMask extension to request funds from a testnet faucet using the following steps.

  • Step 1: On the top right corner of your browser, click on the MetaMask extension. The following box will appear.

On the right side, tap on the three dots, and select “Expand the view” for better perception.

  • Step 2: Click on “Etherum Mainnet.” The following drop-down menu will appear.

Note: If this drop-down menu doesn’t appear, click on “Add Network.” A MetaMask settings page will appear. Select “Advanced” from the settings and scroll down to “Show test Networks.” Toggle the switch to “ON,” and repeat Step 2. Now, you will see the drop-down menu. Click “MetaMask” on the top left corner.

  • Step 3: From this drop-down menu, select “Ropsten Test Network.” The following page will appear.

  • Step 4: Click on “Buy.” The following box will appear.

  • Step 5: To get ether from the faucet, click on “Get Ether”. You will arrive at the following page.

  • Step 6: Click on the green button that says “Request 1 ether from Faucet.” After approximately one minute, you will receive an ether. You can check this on the home page in the “Assets” tab.
